SLAY: [v] to kill especially in a battle or war. #SlayCancer is a movement to erase the stigma of the typical “cancer patient”, to promote early detection of cancer and to DESTROY this monster using fashion dopeness to inspire awareness.
After the initial shock and dismay of my Stage 2 breast cancer diagnosis at the age of 32, I wanted to scream from the mountain tops : EARLY DETECTION SAVED MY LIFE! ! ! ! ! My innate passion for dope fashion pieces and this new found immersion of breast cancer statistics and facts led me to start the “Slay Cancer” brand. What better way to inspire and spread knowledge to young people about cancer than via clothing….and DOPE pieces at that?!?!
A few weeks ago, we had our first photoshoot at the Bushwick Collective in Dumbo, Brooklyn. When scouting different places, this outdoor graffiti and street art gallery location was the perfect spot to showcase the SlayCancer brand: Colorful, bold and full of LIFE! Styled by yours truly, with my brother @ShellbairPhotos as the Shooter, my boo @tashnd with the magical hands for the face beat and @dominiqueandriese , @taraharrisonmusic @urgourgeousness as my beautiful models, it was a recipe for complete success!!! We also got hip hop artist Tek from the legendary group Smif-N-Wessun to rock his #SlayCancer dad hat! Jewelry by @ayeshantidesigns and secondary pieces by @thearteofstyle was the cherry on top!!!Check out some pics from the shoot. Dad hats will be available on the site next week.
